LATEST WAR NEWS
(Received from French Admiral)

10th September:  The centre of the French Army fought a great victory over the right wing of the Germans near Paris.  The principal struggle, however, is being maintained as far as Verdun. All is going well.  It is said that the Russians are coming to France by sea. It is also said the Germans are going Eastwards (possibly retreating Eastwards).  This information may not, however, be altogether reliable.

12th September:  It seems that the Germans are concentrating at Verdun from two sides, North-east and North-west.  Their right wing extends as far as Meaux.  It appears that this wing has been broken. Ligne, Fere-Champenoise and all Germans ---- West surrounded on three sides by Generals Pau and French; are retreating for 40 kilometres, and are now to be reinforced by 60,000 Germans.  The enemy is retreating along the whole line between Meaux and Verdun. East of Verdun everything goes well.  The battle is not decided but we are gaining ground.

13th September:  The attack of our left wing has met with complete success.  The Germans have now been forced to to retreat 70 kilometres (55 miles).  There are several thousand prisoners.  The German forces did not arrive in time.  Aroung Verdun the struggle is continuing.  Up to the present General Joffre has prevented two German Corps from uniting.

Official Journal Noumea:  Anglo-French left continues pursuit. Reported Army Corps cut off.  Belgians resume offensive Aerschot, Diest.  England decides half-million more recruits.  Hugh Russian victory Lublin.  Austrian centre full retreat.  Poland declared enemy.  Breslau fall imminent.

15th September:  Germans on left continued retreat, evacuated Amiens, driven in towards East.  Made no defence of Marne, South-east Reims, Meaux.  Centre lost Revigny, Brabant-Le-Roi.  Still holding South Argonne.  On the right are beating a retreat. We have reoccupied Raon L'Etape, Baccart, Remerville, Nomeny, Pont-a-Mousse. Joffre wires Millerand victory complete. Retreating everywhere; abandoning wounded and materials after a week's formidable struggle.  Allies flushed with success execute pursuit to unexampled extent;  left cross Aisne below Soissons gaining 60 miles. Centre armies already north Marne. Those of Lorraine and The Voges arriving frontier; troops admirable; energetic pursuit.
