Report on alleged broaching of wine etc from Govt House by O.C. "D" Coy.  Exhibit D   WRW./.

Sargt Smith was in charge of the party at Govt House on Sept 15th. He made a statement as follows .... Reached there at 9_ -15 am, and took over from Sgt Anderson of A Coy at 10-15 A.M.
Sgt Anderson stated that there was wine and spirits in the store at Govt House, and he had a Guard mounted there.
On examination of Store, Sgt Smith states it was entirely empty.  Boxes and straw covering from bottles were scattered about.  Sgt Smith called the attention of Sgt Anderson to this and stated there was no need to mount guard and consequently did not do so.
Two Bottles of Champagne was given by black cookliving away from Govt. House to one of Sgt. Smith's men whose name he cannot remember, this cook brought it from his Residence.
Private Lamond states he saw one case and 5 bottles of Wine in this same cook,s Residence.  This was all the liquor consumed by my men while on outpost duty, with the exception of 4 bottles of Beer given by a Lady to 6 men who were on guard over her house.
It would appear that all the broaching has been done by this black cook.
