Lieut. Sadler states:-
I have a telegram alleged to have been sent by you.  What did you see.
I reported that on Monday [14th Sept.] last when I went up I found the house in a very untidy condition.  Contents of drawers strewn about.  One or two locks had been broken off.  One of the locks of stables had been broken off.
Were there any Troops there when you arrived.  Yes. I did not go into Gov. House until Monday morning.
How far was your station away from Gov. House.  About 20 yards.
If men were looting House did you notice any going on.  No I did not.
[Word deleted]
When did you go into Gov. House and see this damage done. Between 7 and  8 on Monday morning.
Were signs of drinking lying about.  Yes a few bottles lying on the hillside verandah.
Did you see our Soldiers drinking the wine or beer.  No.  I noticed that some drawers and wardrobe had been burst open, but there was no other damage except clothes strewn about.
Did you see any furniture broken.  [deletion] Only one Chest of Drawers had been burst open and the wood work torn away.

By Major Beardsmore
I was in charge of the Signallers when you arrived.  Major Beardsmore asked me if all was correct.  He woke me up to do this.
You did not appear under the influence of drink when you spoke to me.  That was somewhat after 11 o'clock.  There was some firing after this and Major Beardsmore woke up and asked what was wrong and his voice seem somewhat different.  The firing went on and off all night.
Did you see me leave the Signalling station whilst you were on duty there.  Not as I am aware of.

[Signed]  R.M. Sadler Lieut
