Capt. McPherson, states.
Since my statement was given I have further questioned the men who up there and find that the Bugler who was up there obtained two bottles of wine (claret I think) from the Bugler of A Coy and he consumed the best part of one bottle himself and the remainder was disposed of among A Coys men then present   As far as I know this action on the part of my Bugler was not known at all to any other men of D Coy then present, as they were fully 100 yards away and out of sight.

Captain McPherson's report marked exhibit "D" and initialled by the President was read over to him and admitted by him to be the truth, with the addition above specified.  [See page 125]
What made you come to the conclusion that this black had broken into Gov. House.  I came to that conclusion from experience I have had on shore two or three days.  I find you cannot trust them.

By Major Beardsmore
Do you know what Pte. of A Coy gave your men this wine
It was a Bugler of A. Coy  His name was Bugler Hemming
I have the Bugler here who received the wine from the Bugler of A Coy. Hardman is my Bugler.
You relieved A. Coy.  Yes
Did you personally go to Gov. House.  No I have never been there
This wine supplied by one Bugler to another is all you know about the wine being drunk as far as you Co. is concerned.  I have given a much fuller report, which I put in this morning.

[Signed]   McPherson  Capt  O.C. D Coy
