Private Johnson, states.
Do you remember last Sunday Night.  Yes.
Where were you stationed.  Near the Signalling station.
What duty were you doing.  Patrol duty.
Where did you patrol to.  Round Gov. House with a Sergeant.  I went to bed sometime after 1 o'clock.  Major Beardsmore was near Gov. House when I saw him.  I saw Major Beardsmore after he went to bed.  I saw someone wake him up.  He was awakened because there was firing going on.  I was sleeping nearest to Major Beardsmore and when the firing started saw a man go to him and wake him up.  Major Beardsmore got up and I heard him ask what the firing was for. I heard Major Beardsmore make other remarks but could not swear what they were. I could not swear the Major Beardsmore was under the influence of drink.  I did not see any signs of drink on Major Beardsmore

By Major Beardsmore
Did you hear me make the remark "That they are firing at their own shadows again"
I would like to say that I think that is the remark he passed.  I heard you ask from what direction the firing was coming.

[Signed]  Private Frank Johnson

To Major Beardsmore.
Were you at Gov. House on Saturday night. No, I was not.
