Rabaul 17th Sept. 1914.
To O.C. "A" Company.
Exhibit (B) WRW Lt.Col.
On the morning of Sunday 13th inst. at about 7.30 a.m. I marched a party of men to Government House and found the Coy. Signallers (2) and a party of 5 scouts in the vicinity. I halted the Patrol and went round the back of the building to investigate. I, however, was immediately informed that Col. Paton had entered the building. On going round the Col. drew my attention to a number of papers and empty bottles on a table and said that the men were not, under any pretence, to enter any house. I informed them to that effect and having posted a Sentry at Government House gates proceeded with my Patrol.
I retired, for the purpose of being present at the Ceremony, at 12 noon. A party of men was left in charge of Col. Sergeant Mack to Patrol and place sentries where required. At 9 pm I was despatched with a section of men to strengthen the Guards, which were visited by me frequently during the night. Major Beardsmore visited the Guards about midnight. The Guard was relieved by "D" Coy at 10 am on 14th inst.
