Signal from Colonel Watson to Captain of "Encounter" and repeated to Colonel Holmes after receipt of Colonel Holmes' order to "Clear up the situation"

14/9/14.  2:30 a.m.

"Ordered to march on Toma at 5 a.m. with 4 Companies of Infantry and machine Guns: Land your Machine Gun by 4:45 a.m. complete: Sketches Captured show enemy occupying position His Right on Matanata to bend of Road near Wunatoro with post at Gire Gire. Will you co-operate by vigorously shelling ridge and plantations, sweeping along red lines on map at daylight:  My troops will not move Southwards from Coast Road until shelling ceases."
