Rabaul  17th September 1914.

Exhibit (C) WRW LtCol
To The O.C.  "A" Coy.

I was detailed off with a section of men on Sunday the 13th inst. at 12 noon to remain at Government House & to patrol & place sentries where required.  Sentries were already posted at Government House gate and also at Hospital.  A party then patrolled the road between the Hospital and Government House and the surrounding country.  I visited the sentries frequently and found everything as when they were posted.  I went round the building of Government House and found the doors open, but nothing broken.

I gave strict instructions to the men that no house was to be entered or private property interfered with.  I was strengthened by Lieut. Bruce and a section of men at 9:30 pm the old sentries were then relieved and new guards posted.  The Guards and sentries were visited frequently.  Major Beardsmore paid the post a visit about 11.40 pm. (Sunday night)  The Guards were relieved by D Coy at 10 am on the 14th inst.  Everything was in the same condition at Gov. House as when I first posted sentries.
