I had a good look at our immediate position and it ran something like the following:

Where the trenches are only 9 yds apart we were continually being bombed. I had a good look at this and they had sapped out towards us and from this small trench they threw the bombs. In it was some dozen dead Turks and the trench was used to bury them and was filled in. This critical point is not manned by Turks but Germans. I could see a number of men in it. The Turks were all looking
