Ten oclock got news from the flagship that 5000 troops and a battery of artillery had got ashore safely. Could hear firing as of a heavy battle. Turks retiring with heavy losses. Our losses not so great as theirs.
Queen Elizabeth just on our left. Both moved in to about 1½ miles from shore. She sent 10 shells from 15" guns into a big fort there. All of a sudden it blew up. Guns and timber flew hundreds of yds heigh. Two Hospital ships in our read [rear].
