Submarines darting about all the time.
A Russian cruiser about 300 yds from us was firing at a fort about 3 miles away. See the shells dropping on it. Aeroplanes flying round all the time taking observations of where the Turks were. Began to unload our pontoons about 6.30 am. On our left heavy Rifle firing could be heard were [where] the Tommies were making a landing. Very little reply given by Turks, a few shells dropping about. Grand to watch the destroyers darting about, Dreadnought about 1 mile off. See 7 or 8 great spurts of flames from her side then a terriffic noise as you would hear the report. Great whizzing in the air as the shells shrieked past and overhead.
