Diary
G.Gower

24th April

Weighed anchor at 6 am. Are with four other transports and convoy, set out for the Dardenelles. Arrived, about 12 miles [indecipherable] the entrance and stopped till morning.

25th April

Awoke at 3.30 am. Found we were going full steam ahead and with several other transports were surrounded by a fleet of Battleships, Cruisers, and submarines.
About 4 o'clock we were at Dardenells. All went into a big bay and there the Battleships opened fire. Terrific firing. Almost deafening. Just like a great thunderstorm only a hundred times worse.

[See image for drawing of bay and landing area.].
