17 VENDREDI. [Friday]
In camp on Amiens-Doullens Road 2 kilos out of Amiens.
A Hot day and muggy
Morning. Route march to Poulainville.
Afternoon: Pitched operating tent. Washed underclothing.
Evening: Wrote letter sitting in shade of saplings.
Very good tucker today – menu included porridge, vegetables and plum dough.
18 SAMEDI. [Saturday]
Morning. On fatigue cleaning & painting g.s.[general service] waggons.
Aft Brigade swimming, carnival at baths off Somme at Amiens but I did not go down
Balloons ascend about dusk mainly behind Amiens. There is speculation as to whether an anti-aircraft net is devised. It is also said our planes attack enemy ones which are discovered by search light. Plenty of Fritzes came over & there are many searchlights.
