(Self) To Villers Bretonneux in line & back to MDS.
AVRIL [April]
5 VENDREDI. [Friday]
At 8.30, 12 of us were taken in the ambulance cars up to the r.a.p.[regimental aid post] at Villers Bretonneux to relieve the bearers there. They had a very busy time evacuating the wounded through the town which by this time presented a very ruined appearance by reason of the daily furious outbursts of enemy shelling.
We managed to get the cars up for the patients.
6 SAMEDI. [Saturday]
About 3 am the battalion marched out but Capt Thomas the detail & ourselves were not relieved till about 7 am when we marched back to the battalions camping place in a wood. Then we were allowed to walk back to our m.d.s. & camp both of which were under our canvas we had carried since mobilisation.
The camp is situated in a field of wheat 6 inches high behind a young forest of saplings turning from bud to leaf
