Gentelles to Boves
(Men of amb. wounded)
AVRIL [April]
1 LUNDI. [Monday]
We remained at Gentelles, that is, the bearers not working with the fighting men – the infantry & machine gun company.
We lived mainly on souvenired rations including some fowls, a calf and potatoes, cocose etc.
We slept mainly in barns. There were some French as well as British troops digging themselves in outside our billets on the edge of the village.
2 MARDI. [Tuesday]
As on the preceding day the enemy shelled the village, and, 6 of our men – HG McLean (severely), John Perry, C Wynn, McKay, being wounded properly & some others slightly it was decided to evacuate the billets, so, after dinner, we moved back to Boves on the R[iver] Aire and were billeted in a big barn in the main street there.
