One of our tanks burned all day & all night & was as a guiding beacon (night 29-30th)

29 DIMANCHE. [Sunday]
← till 5am when 16 bearers from each section joined 33rd (A) 34th (B Sec), & 35th (C Section) Battalion & the remaining bearers including Nobby, Alf H, & myself marched under Major Fitzpatrick through RONSSOY also some gas & stray machine gun bullets & stayed in position near some tanks one being mined. Dawn Americans had advanced 3000 yds but did not mop up the enemy m[achine] guns.
8pm Dark: I joined 35th Batt RAP [Regimental Aid Post] in support trenches
30 LUNDI. [Monday]
in place of Milton who had been wounded. Spent night on stairs of deep dugout 5am: Followed batt out of line & in again by daylight about 1 mile further south, where we remained in support position. One carry 1½ miles to Ford loading post. Found pair Fritz field glasses in trench. Returned to RAP in trench near disabled tank in valley. Many derelict tanks about. Slept in enemy dugout 30ft.underground. Americans remain cut off 200 yards forward.
