March 7 Visited the splendid new City Hall with its fine marble panelled entrance hall & staircases & elaborate civic apartments. Then I went to another

prominent structure – the Assembly Building (Presby Ch of Ireland). With its oval hall to seat 2000 & fine offices it is a model.
Afternoon: I visited the Ulster Volunteer Forces Hospital, Queens College (Uni), & saw Meth[odist] College, visited Botanic Gdns & the splendid large Ormeau Park. Then returned through some suburbs by 2 decker elect[ric] tram, visited the Albert Memorial & ret'd[returned] to Club & wrote home.
Belfast is an admirable prosperous growing city with narrow convenient streets, few fine buildings, ornamental churches, & clean modern terraced suburbs! I slept at soldiers club.
8 VENDREDI. [Friday]
From the City Chamberlain I obtained permits & with two Canadians in the morning visited the York St Flax Spinning Mills & saw linen made. Then in the afternoon on we went through the Belfast Ropeworks. Then returning to town we parted. I took the tram out about 5 miles to Cave Hill an eminence from which a glorious view of Belfast Lough is obtained. Back in the city I had a good walk round then at 9pm caught the boat for Ardrossan in Scotland. The trip was smooth
