great trouble with the fire which we have often kept  going with cordite from a dump near by.   We used to sit & throw it on the fire in handfuls & many a dixie we have boiled with it.   The Battries on both side of us kick up an awful row & its quite easy to see the shell after it leaves the muzzle of the gun & watch it till its out of sight a matter of a few seconds. Strange to say at night although in action they do not worry us & we get a good nights rest but a whine of a Fritzs shell has often woke me up.   We were at this time very chatty & one cannot help it, all the dugouts  are the same,  full of vermin.
