A great number of the infantry bathed their sore feet here & again got left behind, no one seemed to care how things went. I might say here I felt real well & very fit perhaps because I did not carry my pack or gear  still us cooks have always to be getting a meal ready for tired men after a march in spite of the fact we have to march with the men. We crossed the Canal by the pontoon Bridge at Ferry post & went a mile out into the desert where our march was ended. 40 miles over desert.  A journey said to have been done in 1882 when the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir was fought. I will leave the reader to think for himself
