over. The officers then complained about sand being in their food & we had an open Cook house, such is one of the little things a cook has to put up with. On May 5th at 5.30 P.M. (note the time) we left Duntroon in the cool of the evening & marched back to Rail Head where the unit once again were all together, here they began to enforce discipline & our lives were a burden. My trouble was Flies they were everywhere & the officers used to lecture me so at night when it began to get cold & the Flies would all be in one corner of the cookhouse I would take one mouthful of kerosene then light a match & blow a huge flame at them, scorch their wings they would
