Matavai 20th Octr 1840

Dr Sir

I beg to inform you that your Shepherds at Phills River are constantly feeding their Sheep on my Cattle run called the Stony Creek near Cooks Vale I am told that they drive them from Six to Seven miles & camp them on my Tenant Wm Eldridges Cattle's Beding place Now what their motive is I cannot imagine. As it must injure your Sheep driving them so far this hot weather as much as it does my cattle unless it is to extract a Bribe from my Tenant There is plenty of Grass for us both if the men would keep on their own runs Your Overseer is not in the least to blame he having told the men no to go [page torn] but they still persist in [page torn]
