We had Dinner at Le Teil a nice little town where there was plenty of water for a wash. The French people came round selling eggs & oranges. We had Bully Beef & "Dog" Biscuits for our meal and tea. One tin of Bully Beef & 6 Biscuits were a days rations & its marvellous how a fellow appreciates even that now. Talk about sugar I do not know what it tastes like & I enjoy tea now without sugar. As we raced along in the train it was brought home to me that France has been bled white of its male population. I saw old women of 70 & 80 digging in the fields & old men hard at it. We never saw a young fellow unless he was in uniform. At Le Pouzin we saw a lot of young women unloading Bricks from a Railway truck. The scenery going through the Valley of the Rhone
