We arrived at Marseilles at 6.15 am on June 1st, & berthed at the Docks (known as wharves in Australia). Marseilles has a beautiful Harbor, & the entrances to the inlets of the bays are all mined across.  We stopped on Board till 7.15 pm & we then marched off into the streets & I saw the first glimpse of France.  We were halted about a mile further on & the French people came along selling Oranges and Chocolates.  They would take English pennies & shillings but they would not look at Australian Money.  When we were at the Union Jack Club at Alexandria the Official there would not take an Australian Note as he said it was the first one he had saw in his life & he looked at it like as if it was going to bite him.  It is an English Club too.  About 10 pm we were marched to the station & put into 3rd Class Carriages & at 10.30 pm we started on our journey through France from Marseilles to Havre.  I woke up on the
