aristocracy. We can see for miles along the sea coast. We expect to leave here on February 1st en route for Bapaume & Cambrai as Nix is going to see his Brothers grave about 3 Kilos out of Bapaume. Lieut Nix is billeted in a big house in the town. There are only a few Australians here mostly Tommies but it is a rotten quiet hole. I passed over a lot of old battlefields through ruined towns all the way down & the Germans will have a big job to do if they have to build them up again.

On the route we took the rails were smashed every few yards & they have only had time to repair one set & thats the reason why we took 6 days on the journey. When I get back to the Battalion I expect to get leave to Paris & I will be able to see the great statesmen at the peace Conference. I am going to wire home for £10 to go on leave with. The Paris edition of the Daily Mail has a photo of Billy Hughes walking down the Champs Elysee in Paris
