Dear Herbert & Jess,

I received your bundles of papers some days ago & thanks very much for doing it & I can assure you Australian Papers are always welcome. I will be going over to France in 6 days time & shall be glad to get out of this rotten hole. I am just beginning to feel a bit homesick thinking of old places at home & would give all I had to shake hands with some old friend. I must admit I am just beginning to realise what is in front of me now. It is a case of "going west" or having a bit of luck & coming through O.K.  The war is practically at its height now. Out of the 150 of us that left Brisbane only 25 of us remain in England here. I shall go back to Australia with a very bad opinion of England & once I settle in Australia nothing will get me out of it. It is the best land on Gods Earth. Well Herbert & Jess & Thora I will now close with love to you all & hope you are well.

Your loving Brother
Norman
