Lady where he was billeted told me how the Germans used to treat her brutally. They imprisoned the people in the Church & practically starved them. She also said that the German Officers used to sleep on the beds with their muddy clothes & boots on. We left Becquigny on the 7th at 10 am & marched through Vaux Andigny & Rejet de Bailleau [Beaulieu] to Petit Cambresis where we stopped for a day & left on our way to Favrill [Le Favril] where we are now. We are leaving for Avesney [possibly Avesnes] on the border of Belgium next Tuesday & will spend Christmas there. The Germans cleared out of the place at the toot & left Guns behind on the roads. I received a letter from Arthur & also Maud
