Johney soon came back = threw the gun down on the varandah

"Tonyata", [*see note]a big fine made Black, who spoke good English

met this Black somewhere about Charrily Creek and

Killed him = Toney used to discribe[sic] it in this way

"Here he is we bin meet him in Bush, me and Johney Martin

well here he  is, we bin talk a little bit  & I bin piallow

You got him smoke brother? That fellow bin piallow

Johney bin come behind and hit him on head with

nunanulla  & knock him down - then we bin kill him

and leave him for the Native dogs and Eaglehawks to

eat him". He always wound up the yarn with "Dam

and blast him". We often heard of Blacks being killed
