after my Mothers death = he came up and put his hand

on the pumel[pommel] of the saddle and looked up at me "Old

Missus dead John" I said "yes Jackey" he went and sat

down on a log  and had a good cry = and I must say

I went away doing the same - he had four sons George,

Tomey Steel = he died soon after we came here and was

burried[sic] not far from Gore's = about where Fred Richardson

house was = Jimmo = George and "Cowruck" (he never had

a white name) poor little beggar = he just wasted

away, and died at the camp in the Bush oposite[sic]

where Wm Polley lives = I cannot forget seeing Old Jackey

after his boy "Cowruck" died. I went to the camp and

found Jackey minding the corps[corpse], for some reason = what

I don't know, they could not bury it untill[sic] Old Goahana

came and Jackey told me he could not eat any of

the "Blackfellow's patter". would I send him up a

bit of bread, he could eat that, he had not eaten

a bite for more than a day & had tightened his belt

of Possum string untill[sic] he looked almost cut in two

Another of my Mothers men was "Ogle eyed Jimmy"

Jimmy had a most awful squint, that accounts for his

name, Jimmy went mad at the last and "ran amauck[amuck]

he was throwing spears at the men &  women at the camp

when Bungay Billey put a spear through him and

killed him, it was not far from Tinonee = When
