house, while our house was being built at Kimbriki,

Jimmey used to collect firewood and carry water for

Mother = He served her a nice trick one day = Do

you know what Dogwood is? very likely not, as it has

almost disapeared[sic] = when it was burning it had a most

awful smell = like rotton[rotten] horse = that is about the worst

smell I know = Jimmey was getting a supply of wood

and wanted to get away & as there was lots of Dogwood

about he brought that & Mother paid him his sixpence

and Jimmey cleared out. I was over that day and

Mother could not make out what was the matter, there

was an awful stink. I can't use a milder word = when

I looked at the wood I soon saw the cause = Jimmey

took care to clear out before Mother found out.

Then there was Johny Martin, he was the Dr of the Tribe

a short, stumpy - one eyed - Blackfellow = with a tremendous

paunch, and he used to grunt between every sentance[sic], if

he was telling anything it was all grunts - this way = "I bin

see him native dog (grunt) close up (grunt) water hole(grunt)

up big Flat (grunt) = he was the only man I knew

who could eat native dog = I do not know how this was

but they have told me that only old men could indulge

in dog.  I do not know of any other food that was only

to be eaten by old men = but I have a fancy that Eaglehawk

was only eaten by old men,  I remember Johney Martin being

sent out by Mother with my gun to shoot pigons[pigeons] =  There
