Dear Herbert & Jess

I received both of your letters dated 14th Sept also cards dated 30/8/18, 1/9/18 & 7/9/18. I received 15 letters in the mails altogether, 12 from home & yours. We are going to Germany via Belgium tomorrow night by train from Oisemont & all our letters have to be handed in tonight so I writing as many letters as I can. We are going to garrison German territory.

Am jolly glad you received all my letters & cards because I thought they all went down at sea. I received your I.W.W cuttings & I agree with you it is one of the greatest conspiracies on the part of the police to convict innocent men for their own personal gains. I read it with great interest & send me up to the end of the trial. You say that Edward complains of not receiving any letters from me. He wants to think a little. When I was in the country I wrote him often & he never replied & I wrote him 6 months ago yet no reply. So does he think I am going to write to deaf ears?

You say in your card that you should have written me more letters. Don't worry Herbert your going OK & besides there is nothing much for you to write about because every day is the same where you are whereas here it changes so much & there is more to talk about. Dismiss that idea at once from your mind.

The Frenchies went mad here on the day the Armistice was declared & they were all smiles to us. There is one thing against the Froggies
