Dear Herbert & Jess
I have received 2 parcels from home within the last 4 days but the letters are not coming forward as I would like. It is really marvellous how even one letter from Australia is appreciated here & it makes a fellow buck up & life feels brighter.
It was in the Times newspaper today that all the mails posted by us to Australia between the dates of June 9th to July 2 have been lost at sea. Between those dates I posted you 5 letters & 2 bundles of newspapers & now you will think that I have neglected you. Since July 7th I have posted you 4 5 letters & 1 bundle of newspapers. I keep a note of them in my diary. I have sent 49 letters to all of you at home since I arrived here on June 5th but I suppose half of them will get there & it disheartens a fellow to think
