Transcription

by a Blackfellow named Tommey = he was never

taken but was traced up Gloucester way and

the time this happened wa about the time that

Johnston's first saw anything of the signs of a

solatary Black being about. It may have been him

or perhaps a madman from some other tribe - but

it is strange that he should give the name of

Tommy = I have never heard of any human remains

being found up  the Dingo, but it is not much

looked over to this day I should fancy. It was

noticed that he looked  very frightened when

the horse went over any of the culverts on the

Road as if he were not acquainted with them.

The memory of him is lost except amongst a few

of us Old Blokes, that is the reason I have

writen about it = Now about their honesty, we

never used to hesetate to leave tools or anything

about in the Bush = they were never interfered

with, and about the house they came about = came

into our kitchens as they liked and nothing was

taken = but they sometimes would help themselves

to green Maize in the field and roast the

cobs and call it Mutti, perhaps they did not think

that ws stealing as the Maize  grew  = but the

young ones now are not to be trusted, I met

with an instance of Blackfellows honesty at the
