As I have said before I think it is astonishing how small a place can contrive to run a good club. The subscriptions must be high because the community is so small but practically every one drops in after the days work and has a cocktail and a yarn. It is in these isolated places that men become really clubbable.
The Sydney reached Kingston Jamaica on the 24th January and to our great relief found the Flagship had departed.
The weather at this time of year was insufferably hot and it was impossible to take any exercise till after four oclock at which time those who could be spared betook themselves to the Liguanea Club.
Have I described this Club before? This is a club the like whereof is rare or unknown in Australia.
There is the usual Club House sacred to the men folk with the usual residential arrangements but attached are Golf links tennis court croquet lawns swimming bath and a racecourse which mixed parties may use.
After three days here we went North to Bermuda for a quick refit and on the thirty first of January went into dock
