great flag astern started to come out to us but as it had been whispered by wireless that there was not a good bridge four at Caracas we turned away & made for Grenada.
On the 18th January the Sydney arrived at Grenada and after a due and discreet pause and as the Flagship was still in Jamaica we went ashore.
A couple of us discovered a Billiard table on which we had a very sporting game. There was no red spot but in lieu as they say in the kings regulations there was a crater in which the red ball oscillated and finally came to rest. It was always dislodged with great difficulty and usually leapt off the table on to the floor but the marker knowing the table often dexterously caught it.
St Georges the capital from the sea is a pretty place backed by the even gree hills so common in the Indies but ashore the glamour disappeared the pretty villages became squalid nature dens the smell whereof was like unto that which had been forgotten.
