would not accept an Australian sovereign though American green backs and Mr Lloyd Georges promises to pay were readily taken.
In Halifax we saw the Royal Canadian Navy. It consists of an old warehouse called the Niobe whose sister ships have long since been condemned in the Royal Navy and another funny ship like the Psyche tho' probably not so good.
There are three other ships which look like converted Manly Cargo boats and one and all majestically prop up the wall at the Royal Canadian Dockyard what time their officers seem [borne?] for duties at the Halifax Club. We often thought that the Sydney had a pretty peaceful job for war time but compared to some other ships the Sydney was a veritable sea pirate. We did at least go to sea pretty often and stop there and often stopped there for weeks.
After five days in Halifax during which we put to sea again thankful enough to get away to a life which if monotonous was at any rate peaceful.
