Bedford basin lies three miles above Halifax proper and a picket boat service was seen to the town.
Halifax seems to be about the size of Newcastle N.S.W. and from the little we saw of the place it was not very exciting. Here for the first time we were taken no notice of not entertained at all nobody called on the ship and no notice of any kind was taken of us.
It gave us a poor first impression of Canada. Canada owned no navy and the Australian ships had come many thousands of miles to help protect her coasts.
