The town itself is clear and in striking contrast to West Indiantowns. Even the coloured population

The town is well built and clean and in striking contrast to West Indian towns which always seem to need a wash. There is an enormous Summer Hotel, run by Americans as usual, and which is filled with tourists in the summer months. A big American company seems to own or control these Hotels all down the coast of Florida in the Bahamas & Bermuda throughout the West Indies.

When we arrived the school children were given a holiday and the streets were hung with signs welcoming their brave defenders.

Crowds of boats came round the ship their crews singing Rule Britannia & Tipperary and being otherwise obnoxious.

We had listened to the immortal strains of Tipperary for nearly a year in every port we visited and it began to pall.

In the two days of our stay we sandwiched in a dinner two dances a garden party and a motor picnic so the good folk of Nassau did us pretty well.
