and fifteen of us made fifty.
The coloured gentlemen were no mean performers and there is more cricket played probably than in Australia. About every kid has a bat or ball. Daily our star performer who played for the Combined Varsities against South Africa failed us on this occasion.
In the evening there was a first rate Amateur Dramatic show by the lgocal people and so home to bed as Pepys says.
On the 20th January the ship sailed for Kingston the capital of St Vincents which lay about ninety miles away.
On arrival the ships company had a holiday - coaling ship.
A few of the hardiest spirits among the officers who had nothing to do went ashore to investigate but soon returned dispirited reporting the place dead. One who tried to obtain a meal got a baked banana and some bread and butter for half a crown.
For the first time we found no Club and stranger still no bridge so naturally we decided not to stay and after a few hours sailed for Jamaica.
