However the cutter was taken in tow brought alongside the ship and her passenger landed and then the trouble began. The men who should have been on watch were searched for and found and the poor blear eyed wretches dragged on deck and spoken to with winged words. They explained that they had lost their form and that their alcoholic resistance was not what it used to be.
Later in the forenoon the gentlemen who had slept ashore and been too well treated began to arrive and some were hoisted on board with a derrick.
The day was spent aboard none but the most necessary trips ashore were run as it was blowing half a gale and the Captain decided that unless the weather improved he would up anchor next day and sail for Jamaica.
At intervals during the ensuing night anxious eyes watched the sea and Heavens for a change for on the next day a sports meeting was to be held. However the weather moderated and early in the morning it was possible to lower the boats which had been hoisted on board in anticipation of a heavy blow and an early departure.
