received from Sydney. The Sydney then departed for Townsville to coal and rejoin the Berrima at Palm Island on 25th August.
We were to wait here till the submarines AE(1) and AE2 arrived.
On the 2nd Sept the Submarines arrived and the whole party moved north to a rendezvous where we were to meet the Australia which had returned from Samoa.
We joined the Flag on the 9th September and next day were sent off with the destroyers to make a second night attack. This was time carried out in the early morning of 11th September but Simsonhafen was again found clear of enemy ships.
The Sydney had previously embarked a landing party from the Berrima part of which was now transferred to the destroyers & despatched to Kabakaul the remainder landed from the Sydney at Herbertshohe & went in search of the wireless station. A guard from the Sydney was also landed to take charge of the Post Office & landing stage. The Australia & Berrima arrived soon afterwards about 7 AM.
