[Page 39]

Start at midday for Haironville. Our billeting very fair.

25th - Clean up, as usual. Town seems dead without old Friends, frightfully home sick. A few are off on Furlough. I wonder will my turn come around before we return. News from the front are not good. It appears Duaumont belongs to the Boches again.

26/29th - Same monotonous repos life.

30 - Off at 5 to Longoville. About 20 kilometres off, I dont know where. 2 days vines. We start at 2 p.m. to disembark at Barisé [Barisey] la Cote in the Meurthe & Moselle at 11 p.m. Put up in a large clean grange. If we stop here for our repos.

31 - Village about 200 inhabitants. Little or nothing to be got bar eggs, milk & butter & cheese. Inhabitants seem fairly agreeable.

1/6 - Complete rest, go wandering about to neighbouring villalges. Boutigny Cauisure where there are not troops, there can arrange to have a decent meal cook. Getting fat at this lazy life. Meet the sons by mere chance the sons of the touis [?].
