16 - Morning quiet, rumors of reléve for Telephonist during the night. Afternoon sky clears up saucisses [sausages] & aero & bombardment starts. They send us something tall, nothing smaller than 150. Mirabile dictu, our wires only cut once. Usual peripetics, attaque á la grenade, small infantary attack which fails. During night another attack cote zone. At 12 we are told that we are not relevé till to-morrow.

17 - Sleep most morning. Day comparatively quiet with exception of a couple of hours between 5 & 7 in afternoon usual heavy bombardment goes on. Waiting for the reléve. Do hope they will come early. The breeze comes from the boches & the stench of dead men is awful. Evening quiet get away nicely about 12.

18 - Arrive Fromereville very tired about 3 in the morning. A few hours sleep, then a substantial meal & thorough wash & shave feel a good deal refreshed.
