about 3 p.m.  We must stop the Boches from coming up the ravin Touvemont, which the 156 were occupying.

11 - Uncomfortable night, rotten gourbi, no shelter at all in case of bombardment, which is even now commencing.  We are here for a fortnight. We have "vives de reserves " for 3 days.  At night change our headquarters. Our position is too dangerous. Sent at 10 to get a corvée 2 or 3 miles from here near Bras.  Boches rain shells on all roads & villages have several narrow squeak.  Back at about 12.30.  Helmet dinted by shrapnells.

12 - Up at 4.30. Pretty tired & specially thirsty all liquid at a premium little or no rest, cannot even stretch limbs to rest & bitterly cold.
