if the general attack on Verdun is dwindling down anyhow on this side. The Germans have been withdrawing, troops & cannons north, so say our aviators. It has been noted also that they are bombarding less the roads on neighbourhood & lines of communication.
21 - Not much sleep, days beautiful but nights still bitterly cold. Our people comparatively quiet during night. Within half an hour two French aeroplanes came down in flames. Seems to shake aviators up a bit for in afternoon the Boches are allowed to come within 100 metres of our lines. Metrailleuse fire on them, result they are seen & unpleasant bombardment in afternoon. Shall we ever get out of this hole alive. Only 5 wounded. Region full of éclats d'abus.
22 - About 2 p.m. heavy bombardment with big calibre for an hour. Little damage done, 1 killed & few wounded but how a seance like that tells on ones nerves.
