6th - En route at 12 to embark in cars at 2. Arrive near Dombasle which is burning about 6 pm eat soup & then en route for somewhere near the Mort d'homme about 21 kilometres, bombarded in the bois of Bourrus rather exciting 10 minutes, horses block the road, usual excitement noise etc. Arrive dead tired just as I'm beginning to despair.
7th - Sleep in bottom of trench terrific artillery duel but they leave us quiet enough just as well. No homme de liaison required. Have to reform my section.
8th - Ravitaillement blocked on the way. No feed, no wine, no gnoble [hooch]. We have to live on dry biscuits, [indecipherable] & water which we find in a little stream some 100 yards away. Spend the day making some kind of shelter but hard work with little portable tools. Outside a little wood which we brought over from the ruins of Betingcourt [possibly Bethincourt] nothing. Feeling rather slack on regimen. Last night 2 men with others from other companies went over in 1st line to retake part
