24 - Hear that 900 reinforcements are coming to the Regiment. Every company to brought up to effective of at least 200. We have to clear out to make Room at 2 off to Rupt 3 kilometres off.

25 - Planton [orderly] at Haironville.  Carry orders from our Cmdt to our Captn. Beautiful weather, country magnificent. If there was not the thought that war is not finished it would be a real pleasure to live. Our footballers again distinguish themselves. They beat a team of Automobilists comprising of 2 internationals by 2 to 1. They are beginning to think themselves.

26 - Up early to go back to Haironville where I am on duty till eleven.

27/31 - Same old routine, delightful weather, country looking magnificent in its new spring clothes.  But when one thinks of the dreadful tragedy that is going on yonder & still what remains in store for us really "Le prentemps magnifique ã perdu son odeur" [The magnificent spring has lost its smell] as a French poet once wrote.
