in 1st Company, 30 in 3rd.  Rabier, a real brave & genuine chap, our corporal gets his leg blown off. Quite 150, in whole Bon. for nothing not counting amunition wasted. Afterwards day somewhat quieter. Heavy bombardment on our left cote [side], 304 in afternoon followed by attack. We see them coming out of their trenches but our mitrailleuses [machine guns] plays havoc with them. 

Afterwards I learn that they had time to drink wine & gnole [hooch] of our men & light a fuse to the case of grenades at barrage. A Sergeant of ours sacrificing himself for his comrades gets blown up.
