=ally here, they are likewise employ'd in carrying Cattle grain &ct to Timor & when not wanted they are hauld aShore into Houses or Shacks built on purpose. As I have mentioned Slaves, it is necessary to observe that all the great men have Slaves which are the Natives of the Island they can dispose of them one to another but cannot sell them to go out of the Island, the Price of a Slave is a good large fatt Hogg, Horse &ct. I have before mentioned that many of the people can speak Portuguese but hardly any one Dutch from this it is probable that this Island was formerly under the Jurisdiction of the Portuguese, tho' the Dutch Governr. never own'd as much but said that the Dutch had Traded here these hundred years past

Saturday 22nd  Winds at SSE SE & E a gentle breeze which we steer'd WSW by Compass. at 4 o'Clock we discover'd a small low Island bearing SSW distt 3 Leags. this Isld. hath no place in any of our Charts Latd. 10:47S. Longd. 238:28W. at Noon we were in the Latitude of 11:9S Longd. 237:76W. Course & distce. sail'd since yesterday noon S63ºW 67 Miles

Sunday 23rd  Winds Easterly a modte. breeze which by noon brot. us into the Latde. of 11:10S Longde. 240:48W. Course & distce. sail'd since yesterday at noon is W8 Miles

Monday 24th  Winds at E & SE a modte. breeze & fine pleasant wear. In the evening found the Variatn. to be 2:44W at noon our Latde. was 11:8S Longde. 242:13W. Since we have been clear of the Islands we have had constantly a swell from the Southwd. which I do not suppose is owing to the winds blowing any where from thence, but to the Sea being so determined by the Position of the Coast of New Holland ~ 

Tuesday 25th  Modte. breezes at SE & clear pleasant wear. at noon our Latde. was 11:23S & Longitude 244:00W.

Wednesday 26th  Winds & wear. as yesterday at Noon Latde. in 11:10 Longde. 245:41W.

Thursday 27th  Winds at SSE a fresh breeze In the evening found the Varn. to be 3:10W. at noon we were in the Longde. of 247:42W & Latde. 10:47 which is 25 Miles to the Northward of the Log, which I know not how to account for ~ 

Friday 28th  Winds at SSE & SE a fresh breeze & Cloudy with some Showers of rain at Noon Latde. observ'd 10:51S, which is agreeable to the Logg, Longde. in 250:9W.

Saturday 29th  Modte. breeze at SE & clear pleasant wear. Steer'd NW all this day in order to make the Land of Java. at Noon we were by observn. in the Latde. of 9:31S & Longde. 251:40W. 

Sunday 30th  Fresh Gales & fair wear. In the AM I took into my possession the Officers, Petty Officers & Seamens Log Books & Journals at least all that I could find & enjoin'd every one not to devulge where they had been. at noon our Course & distance sail'd since yesterday at noon is N20W 126 Miles which brot. us into the Latde. of 7:34S & Longde. 252:23W.
