Tuesday. Winds between the South & East a Gentle breeze (indecipherable) as on, after (indecipherable) we were abreast of the Western Point of Land above mentioned distant (indecipherable) 3 Miles which I (In Margin - C. Upstart) have named Cape Upstart because being surrounded with low land, it starts or (indecipherable) up singley (?) at the first making of it Latute 19o: 39 So Long. 212.'32W. it lies NNW, in Lg. from Cape Gloucester & is of a height sufficient to be seen 12 Long, but it is not so much (indecipherable) of a Promontory, as it appears to be because on each side of it was the Sea is very low land woh. is not to be seen unless you are fully well in with the shore inland are some (?)able high hills or on our (indecipherable) which like the Cape affords but a very barren prospect having past this Cape we continued stand (?) to the WNW2 as the land lay under an easey (?) sail having from 10 Lo 10 Laon until 2 o Clock AM when we fell into 7 (?) Laon upon w oh high (?) hauld (?) over wind to the Northern. judging our (indecipherable) to be very near the land also (?) we found for at daylight we were little more than 2 Long. of what decided (?) us was the (indecipherable) of the land. w oh is but very little higher than (indecipherable) face of the Sea, but in the bur boundary (?), were some hills, At noon we were in 15 Lon Water & ab. 4 Long from the land over but (?) by Obreser m (?). was ig:12 So Cape Upstart bore 38:30 L dist 12 Long. Course & distor sailed since yesterday noon N48:45 - 53 Miles, AIV (?) before noon some very large snakes (?) were seen (indecipherable) up out of the low land, at sunrise I found the Variation to be 5:35 Laterly, at sun set last night the same Needle (?) gave more go this being close under Cape Upstart I judged that it was owing to from one or other Magnetical Matter Lodged in the Earth (Drawing of a feather in ink to end the paragraph)
Wednesday 6th. Light (indecipherable) 12 w which we sailed (?) WNW as the land now lay a Depth (In Margin - Cleveland Bay) of Water 12V1A Lon at Noon we were by Observeron (?) in the Latde of 19o:18o Longde made from Cape Gloucester 1:30WL Course & distance sailed since yesterday noon WNW.28 Miles in this situation we had the Mouth of a Bay all open extending from /2 LoSo SW/2 So distance 2 Long. this bay which I named Cleveland bay appeared to be ab.t 5 or 6 Miles in Extent a very way the East point I named Cape Cleveland & the W. BassenHead this last had much the appearance of an Island they are both tolerable high V is the Main Land within them, & the whole appeared to have the most rugged (?) rocky & Bassendorf family we have yet seen, however it is not without inhabitants as we saw smoke in several places in the bottom of the bay the Northern Land we had in sight at this time bore (?) NW this we took to be an Island or Islands for we could not trace the Main Land further than WSN (Drawing of a feather in ink to end the paragraph)
