Active patrolling on the front. Heavy reciprocal bombardments.
12-4-18
9 am Enemy attacked HANGARD under cover of heavy bombardment. Attack held up on N. by the 36th Bn.
9-30 am 35th Bn and 9th M.G.Coy commenced to move from VILLERS-BRET to a position of readiness in the Square T.11
11-15 am Lieut-Col J.A. Milne D.S.O. C.O. 36th Bn and Adjutant (Capt. T.R. MacNee) both killed by shell fire at their Bn Headqrs.
3 pm Major F.G. GRANT, 35th Bn and Major W.A.S. DUNLOP A/B.M. assumed duty as C.O. and Adjt. respectively of 36th Bn termporarily. Information received that enemy held up in HANGARD by French Troops, who are preparing a counter attack in conjunction with English troops.
4 pm Orders received to hold 35th Bn and 9th M.G.Coy in Square T.11 until required by Div Commander.
7-30 pm 10th Essex Regt and French counter-attacked and retook the village of HANGARD.
13-4-18
1-10 am 34th and 36th Bns relieved by 18th and 20th Bns in the front line. 36th Bn moved to BOIS de BLANGY in Div Reserve and 34th Bn to U.24 as counter-attack Bn.
2 am French Div on right and Aust. Corps on left report attack expected.
9-45 am G.O.C. arranged woth G.O.C. 58th Div for 33rd Bn and 9th main as garrison at VILLERS-BRET whilst 34th, 35th and 36th Bns consolidated the line BOVES-BLAGNY-TRONVILLE
3 pm 18th Div. relieved by 58th Div and Bde placed under orders of 58th Div. III Corps.

Enemy maintained a passive attitude. Orders received for 9th A.I.Brigade to relieve the 175th Inf. Bde in the left Sub-Sector Reserve Line, running from GENTILLES to the AMIENS-VILLERS-Bret. Road.
15-4-18
10 am Bde Conference at White Chateau on AMIENS Road. Enemy shelled AMIENS and all back areas.
7-30 pm Relief of 175th Inf. Bde complete.
16-4-18
Decided that each Bn shall retain out of the line 100 Ranks with a L.G. organised and prepared to move forward in the event of an action involving heavy casualties to our troops. Enemy shelled our batteries heavily around CACHY.
17-4-18
4-30 am Enemy commenced heavy bombardment of VILLERS-BRET with Gas shells and H.E. of all calibres. BOIS de L'ABBE also heavily shelled.
11 am 33rd Bn report 51 casualties from 2 large gas shells bursting near cellars.
1-30 am Very quiet.
